An Extra Degree: The Roland-Story Booster Club
By Claire T.
Many people in the community and Roland-Story District do not realize what the Roland-Story Athletic Booster Club is all about and what they do.
The Roland-Story Booster Club, run by a handful of people, is an organization that is primarily involved in raising money for the Roland-Story. Most recently, a golf outing was put on by the booster which raised over $12,000, all donated back to the Roland-Story Schools.
The money that the booster club raises goes to upgrade the Roland-Story athletic facilities and to supply new uniforms for high school and middle school teams, as well as providing dedicated and trained strength coaches. The weight room and practice equipment are upgraded as well. And lastly special requests from coaches and the athletic department to help RS athletes succeed on the court, field, mat or course.
Sara Truesdell, a member of the booster club says, “The booster club provides a number of opportunities for community members, fans, and student-athletes to get involved in support of Norse activities. From booster club membership to concession stand volunteers, to the youth basketball tournaments, all volunteerism is appreciated. The big positive is that all booster-generated funding goes directly to support our student-athletes and coaches. It’s truly a win for anyone who says yes to the booster club!” Volunteers are a huge backbone of the program. Events that are hosted require a lot of volunteers to run smoothly.
The booster club is normally unrecognized for the amazing work that they do. As you can see, their impact on the community is huge. A quick way to get involved is a donation! There are many ways to donate to the booster club.
One opportunity to support the booster club is to be a member of the 212 club! In the community, you may see a “Roland-Story 212” sticker with a Norsemen logo. The 212 Club is what the booster club calls “the extra degree.” You can see on their website that, “At 211 degrees, water is hot, but at 212 degrees, it boils. Just one extra degree makes all the difference!”
A membership with the Booster Club at the $212 level will help pay for strength and conditioning programming that keeps athletes healthy and helps them perform their best in the sports they love. This is just one opportunity and example of a way to support the booster club, but there are so many others. Anyone can help the booster club, including you!
