The students, because she likes to interact with you and get to know you on a personal level. In high school, was this what you saw yourself doing? No. She went to school to be a nurse. Where did you move from/where did you live? She moved from Holsting, IA, to Radcliff. In school, were you a smart student? Average. She left a school district where she had worked for 26 years and was so excited when her friend sent her the Facebook page for the open position for the special ed teacher. By Ana H. Ms. Furlow is new office staff for Roland-Story High School. She has four daughters, three of whom are still at Roland-Story. She is a hometown staff and is very excited to be at Roland-Story High School. She came to Roland-Story to be near her daughters. Ms. Furlow in her freetime likes to go to her daughters’ sports and loves cheering them on. She also likes photography and is one of the teachers for Yearbook. Ms. Furlow has a daughter that is graduating this year. She has a sophomore and also a 8th grader. Ms. Furlow is excited to embark on this new adventure and see her daughters grow up. Being a staff at the high school has given her more time to be able to see her daughters grow up. By Kevin D.  Roland-Story acquired a new principal in August of 2023. Mr. Andy McQuillen is the new principal of RSHS. Mr. McQuillen grew up outside of Moscow, Iowa.  Moscow is in far eastern Iowa. He grew up on his family farm next to his grandparents. The families raised hogs, cattle, and row corn crops. He helped a great deal with the farming operation and still helps today when possible. During high school, Mr. McQuillen ran cross country and track and played basketball. Then he attended the University of Nothern Iowa for a Business Education degree. He taught for a while then decided to go back to UNI to get his administration degree. He wanted to be a high school principal. I asked Mr. McQuillen why he likes working with high school students. He said, “High school students have a broader understanding of the world and can provide deeper thinking. I was a high school teacher and coach well before I was ever a principal, which helps with my perspective.”  Mr. McQuille...

By Kate B. The Roland-Story School Board held a meeting on Tuesday, September 12, with a new member present. Roland-Story student Emilia Broich attended as a student-representative on the school board. Emilia Broich is a senior at Roland-Story High School. She is involved in various activities. As of this year, she has been attending the school board meetings as a representative of the student body. The board meets on the second Monday of every month. During the September meeting, she gave input on the new stadium and discussed how students feel about various fundraisers.  When Broich was asked about the benefits of having a student voice on the school board, she answered, “The benefit of having a student on the board provides opportunities. Mrs. Eley is the new Family and Consumer Sciences teacher for the middle school and high school. Her Room 203 is on the second floor. If you see her around, make sure to give her a warm welcome! Mrs. Eley grew up in Sheffield, Iowa, and attended West Fork Community School District. In high school, she was involved in cheerleading, golf, National Honor Society, and student council. She also worked as a lifeguard and a CNA. When asked about FCCLA, she said, “My school didn’t have FCCLA yet, so being an adviser for FCCLA is new for me, and I am excited for what’s to come.”  Growing up, she wanted to be a nurse and was on her way to becoming one before changing her mind. By Aidan H. Being a secretary is a job that not many people are fit for. However, a new addition to Roland-Story, Mrs. Wolff is the ideal candidate. Mrs. Wolff landed a job as an administrative assistant two months ago through an in-person interview and an online application. She is currently still in the day-to-day learning process at Roland-Story High School. Her job consists of writing passes for students, taking attendance, ordering teachers' supplies and requests, and socializing with students and staff to create an overall positive atmosphere in the RSHS office.  Mrs. Wolff grew up in Emmetsburg with her parents, Janice and Dennis Quinn, and her two sisters. She attended Emmetsburg High School and graduated in 1993. School never appealed to her, so she took the work path straight out of high school as opposed to the college path.
