Football: Roland-Story vs. Nevada
By Krystal R.
On any normal Friday at Roland-Story High School if you were to walk from class to class, you would see a few white jerseys sticking out of the crowd. Everyone is excited and ready for 3:30, because when the bell rings, it’s a mad dash. This week it’s neon and glow-in-the-dark themed, facing Nevada. All of the students and parents start to show up right around 7:20 to get settled in for the game. All of the student section is dressed from head to toe in flashy vests, shoes, and just about everyone has a glow stick. The seniors always get the front right next to the fence, then juniors on the very first couple of benches, right after them the sophomores, and at the very top the freshmen.
Once we hear the Nevada crowd start to roar and see the Nevada players running on the field, then we know we're one step closer to kick-off. Once we hear the introductions of the coaches and the football players, we all get ready to cheer and rally. The Cheerleaders are on the field and ready to go and then all the boys head out. The players set up in formation and get ready; Roland-Story is receiving the ball. Right off the bat, the senior students start off with every common kick-off cheer you will hear coming from the Norse student section. A huge AAAAAAAA and then BAM, the ball is kicked off, and the game has officially started. The student section is loud and never dies out, even if our team is down. Still, the only time anyone moved from their seats was during half-time—nobody wanted to miss the big night.
As we roll into the third quarter after hearing the Nevada band and flags team perform, everyone is ready for the game to start back up again. The student section is shoulder to shoulder with people saving seats and waiting for friends. Everyone is ready to try and fight our way back on the scoreboard. The student section is still going strong and so are our players. Even with the night coming to an end not a singular person on the field or in the stands lost hope. The night came to an end with a score of 42-7 with Nevada taking the win. Friday night did not turn out how most people wanted it to, yet our players kept fighting the whole time—our student section was loud and proud.
