Homecoming 2023
By Kennedy P.
This week marks a very exciting week at RSHS: homecoming week! With many fun things lined up from coronation to the parade, it is important to remember the people behind all the festivities. This year, like each year, Student Council diligently works weeks prior to create the best possible experience for the students at RSHS. Here are some of the fun activities they plan to put on this year:
On Monday the Student Council puts on a Pep Rally in the North gym during seminar time. This is when the court is introduced to the students and community and the band and cheerleaders perform cheers and chants for our student body. This year the court includes Elizabeth Ihle, Jonovan Wilkinson, Boaz Clark, Makenna Carlson, Jaclyn Gessner, Lucas Wuebker, Grace Dowling, William Licht, Jake Jennings, and Emilia Broich.
On Tuesday is the Powderpuff game. While seniors mostly put that on, the Student Council is in charge of sound and music and finding the equipment and staff that help make the game as great as it is each year.
Wednesday the Student Council plans a lunch on the field for the student body. This is always a fun event and the students love taking a break in the day to go outside and not worry about school.
On Thursday the Student Council plans to put on Bingo at lunch. It doesn’t cost anything and members are bringing baked goods as prizes. If the student body has fun, the student council plans to continue it throughout the year.
Then finally, on Friday, the biggest day of the week, the Student Council puts on the parade and dance. With the big game that night, the student body and all the clubs join a big parade that marches around Story City, going past all the businesses and the elementary school. From floats to convertibles with the court riding, the parade is a huge success each year. The parade finally ends at the field where the court is reannounced. Friday night after the big football game the dance begins around ten and goes until midnight is when the dance ends as well as all the homecoming festivities.
Some behind-the-scenes things that the Student Council does is face painting at both the elementary and middle schools and they pass out candy during the first period, as well as many other small tasks that help make the week fun and amazing for everyone. “Homecoming week is always exciting and enjoyable for all, and everyone in Student Council is very excited,” said Junior member Kate Berggren.
