Varsity Football against Carroll Kuemper
By Carson B.
The Roland-Story Norsemen took on the Carroll Kuemper Knights on Friday, September 15th. The Norsemen were looking to improve to 3-1 for the first time since the 2016-17 season. This was the first home game on the new Kerry Van Winkle Field with the student body theme being white out. Coming into the game the Norse were led by junior Sam Knoll who has 332 passing yards and 1 touchdown. Senior Hesston Johnson leads the teams in tackles with 24.5 and rushing with 342 yards and seven touchdowns.
The first half did not turn out how the Norsemen expected it to be: being down 21-0. The Knights had scored two offensive touchdowns and had a punt return touchdown. At halftime there was still the belief that the Norse could turn it around and win. The first drive the Norse looked strong with senior Jonovan Wilkinson taking a 30-yard rush to the house. The score was now 21-7. The defense got a stop and set the offense up with good field position. Then the Knights took back control, winning 42-7.
The Norsemen’s offense was led by Sam Knoll in passing who went 4/11 for 41 yards, and Jonovan Wilkinson who had 10 carries for 72 yards and a touchdown. The defense was led by sophomore Cody Long who had 10 tackles and senior Christian Chelsvig who had 7.5 tackles and one sack. The Norsemen will travel to Southeast Valley on September 22nd.
