Prepping for the pink out game
By Issie B.
This year, Roland-Story is hosting the pink out game against Nevada. There will be raffles, prizes, and fun activities that go along with it. The Roland-Story Key Club is in charge of all the activities that go along with the game. This will be a tough game, and the players are giving it their all in practice to prepare.
Mrs. Lettow is in charge of Key Club, which organizes the pink out game events. She is super excited for the event. The pink out game happens every December. The RSHS and Nevada Key Clubs are collaborating with each other. There will be t-shirts, raffle tickets, accessories, candy guessing jars, and much more. All of the proceeds are going to the Bliss Cancer Center in Ames, Iowa. This is one of the biggest events for the basketball season.
Mrs. Lettow is very passionate about the pink out game. She says, “I believe everyone's lives have been touched by cancer in a way.” The proceeds will help raise money for people who can’t afford treatment. Decker Sports is the t-shirt company Key Club goes through. According to Mrs. Lettow, last year after the pink out game Decker’s donated the t-shirt money to the cancer center.
The basketball teams have been practicing hard to prepare for this game. Nevada is one of our biggest rivals not just for the teams, but for the crowds too. The crowd will be loud and full of energy as we compete for a hopeful win!
In conclusion, giving back to those in times of need is so important, especially in a small community. Hopefully, a large number of people show up to raise awareness and money for people with cancer and the studies behind it. Be there, be loud, and wear your pink!
